The curriculum is aligned to the CA CTE Model Curriculum Standards and Career Ready Standards for the Sector Information and Communication Technologies and Software & Systems career pathway.

This course focuses on the foundations of various aspects of the Internet, including World Wide Web, E-mail, FTP, ethics, copyrights Internet environments, and the development of basic website development skills, including HTML, CSS, page builders, and JavaScript.

Objectives

  1. Students will learn and understand how the Internet works and how to utilize various resources available on the Internet

  2. Students will learn and understand ethical and legal considerations of the Internet.

  3. Students will learn how to apply web site concepts.

  4. Students will learn how to utilize a web host.

  5. Students will learn how to create web sites using HTML, CSS, and utilize page builders.

  6. Students will post websites on the Internet.

  7. Students will develop an understanding of utilizing JavaScript

  8. Students will be introduced to a server, database, website relationships.

This course will explore the use of web site development  techniques in a practical application. HTML and other web site concepts will be developed, utilized, and implemented. The class is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Irvine High School website.

  3. Students will develop communication skills with classmates, teachers, and staff members.

  4. Students will use their expertise as web site consultants for various groups and individuals.

Intro to Business is the first (foundational) course of the CTE Entrepreneur Pathway. Students taking this course are introduced to basic economic principles and business practices, including:

  • Business management and operations

  • Entrepreneurship

  • Marketing

  • Finances

  • Organizational structure

  • Government and business

  • Risk management

Career opportunities and preparation, personal financial management, business writing, and technological applications are also covered. There is an overarching emphasis on today's interconnected global economy throughout.

Coursework and assignments provide hands-on and real-world learning experiences, as well as research and writing opportunities. By the end of the course, students will understand the basic practices and skills underlying the Business and Finance Industry Sector and will be prepared for the capstone course of the Entrepreneur Pathway.

The curriculum is aligned to the CA CTE Model Curriculum Standards and Career Ready Standards for the Sector Marketing Sales and Service and Entrepreneurship career pathway.

In this course, students will create and operate a virtual business modeled under the US Network of Virtual Enterprises International. A Virtual Enterprise is a simulated business that is set up and run by students to prepare them for working in the real business environment. With the guidance of a teacher (“consultant”) and real world business partners, the students determine the nature of their business, its products and services, its management and structure, and engage in the daily operations of running a business. Emphasis is placed on using current business software, communications, and the Internet for business transactions.

Students will participate in trade fair competitions organized through the California Virtual Enterprise network.
